Bernice Swain - 6 of 14

Bernice is a weaver who works in natural fibres - cotton and wool from sheep and alpaca. She makes throw rugs, shawls, scarves, baby blankets, dish cloths and hot water bottle covers.

Bernice loved weaving the minute she tried it several years ago and has been exploring the art of weaving ever since. She finds the weaving process absorbing and therapeutic. Bernice spends lots of time dreaming up new ideas for items to weave.

This year Bernice is exploring the use of bright colours in her weaving; having spent several years working in blues and greens. Bernice is also looking forward to making some larger items on a 'barn loom' which has been sitting in pieces in her garage for some time; but will be put together in her completed studio.

Bernice spends a ton of time weaving but she also loves to hang with the whānau; garden; cook and eat! Bernice loves her work with parents and children in the wellbeing sector.
