Keila Robin – Fibre Art

Based in Christchurch, New Zealand, Keila Robin is a contemporary fibre artist creating richly textured, felted artworks inspired by identity, place, and belonging. Working primarily with New Zealand wool, she combines wet felting and needle felting with a variety of tactile fibres to create layered pieces that blur the line between traditional craft and contemporary fine art. Each artwork tells a story, inviting viewers to connect with the landscapes, emotions, and experiences woven into every piece.
Keila discovered felting while living in Central Otago during a time when she was feeling isolated from friends and searching for a creative outlet. Having recently learnt to crochet and with beautiful local wool readily available, she began experimenting with fibre. Discovering felting was transformative, providing the tactile and expressive medium she had been looking for and laying the foundation for her art practice.
Since then, Keila has embraced opportunities to exhibit her work in regional shows and group exhibitions, finding inspiration and connection within the creative community. She is passionate about continuing to work with locally sourced wool while exploring themes of identity, dislocation, and belonging through her art.
When she's not in the studio, Keila is enjoying life back in Christchurch after recently returning from Central Otago with her family. Having grown up in Lyttelton, she loves rediscovering the region through the eyes of her children, revisiting favourite childhood places, reconnecting with her coastal roots, and exploring the ever-changing city together.
